This was my first trip outside of Portugal. Exploring the archipelago for three months got me in love with this place. This is why I come back every year.

Wahoo Land

Wahoos are a daily presence with endless schools swimming around on the good days. These same waters are also known for having some massive billfish including the world Record Atlantic Sailfish, Blue marlin and also Yellowfin can be targeted on some of the islands.

Reef Fish

On the same grounds you can find african pompanos, horse eye jack, black jack and other species of trevallies. Groupers are also a constant on these waters. From the beautiful small red grouper to the big duskies, there’s a wide range of bottom species that will make for fun dives full of diversity. Other species like the cape verdeans hogfish, bulldog snapper, Dog snapper or even cuberas can be found if you know where to go.

Amber Jacks

Big amber jacks are one of the stand outs of reef diving. With World Record size fish patrolling some pinnacles, this one of our favorites to hunt. They are powerful and tasty with no worms or ciguatera being a problem here.

The Setup

I now go out on Big One, a 40ft Luhrs with 900HP which allows us maximum comfort and safety. It also allows us to do liveaboards to get as remote as we need to go. There are many options regarding accommodation for all levels.
